I'd like to see a tight DNN search integration.  The admin could choose which fields (even custom fields) that the portal search should look at first, second etc.

Is there a timeframe for the search implementation?

Have you made a decision on the implementation method? DNN or your own?

It is difficult to sell this product to my clients if they cant search for a particular item.

Has there been any progress on the search integration?

You have a basic search in the admin. It appears to use the key word field in the individual products.
This would be fine for our immediate needs. Can this not just be implemented on the front end of the website?

A more robust search could be added in the future, but at least this will allow my client to add key phrases and then a search box. It can be very basic with an exact or like match. It doesnt matter as long as we can enter keywords and then search for them. 
The advanced search (different fields and types of searches and configurations) can be added in a future release.

Let me know, my client is very anxious.
