Well, my own requirements would start off simple enough:
Basic:
- Offer a subscription for services on my site
- Offer configurable free trail period before the subscription starts
- Supported by the standard gateway providers and PayPal.
- Confirmation emails that a subscription has been charged to both the customer and store owner
Nice to haves:
- Move users in / out of a role based on subscription being current
- Email notifications to both the store owner and customer when credit cards are expiring
- Reminder emails that a subscription is about to be charged to both the customer and store owner
- Apply same sales / discount model to services
- Referral program that allows customers to indicate an existing customer referred them and then give that customer N months of service for free for the referral
I'm sure there are some "basics" that I overlooked, but I think that's a pretty good starting point. Please let me know what you think and if you think it's doable anytime in the near future.
