Hi Frank,
I noticed that when I click on Categories and drill down into child categories at some point the parent categories disappear off screen. This is confusing for the users. The behavior we would like to see is that as the user expands the categories parent categories always remain visible. The same behavior as a tree view control.
Is this possible?

I have noticed this and I wasn't too bothered about it as I have quite deep categories and didn't want to clutter the display too much, but I will say that it takes 2 clicks of the Home button to reset the category list to the default view. The first click appears to reset the details module, and the second resets the category module. That is quite annoying.
We'll improve it soon.
So what are we saying here? That there is no way to have the category display like a treeview?
As Andy described, we plan to make top categories visible no matter how deep the category tree is.
Do you have an estimated time of inclusion for this feature?
This is rather confusing behavior to even a developer?
Do you know of a work around until you have a release. I have a feeling my client will want to find another store.
Thanks,
Confusing maybe, but deep category tree can also be a sign of the bad category design.
Check out the way volusion works.
Notice the sub categories above the product display.

When I talked about deep category tree, I was referring to category tree displayed in Category Menu module. When you have a deep category tree(>3), you should use Grid List With Subs template - that's what it's designed for. Actually, you can create an almost same website using AliCommerce.
