payment actions (Authorize, Charge, Capture)

Frank,

Could you explain the payment actions: "Authorize", "Charge", and "Capture." What is the intended workflow for these actions? I'm looking at payment through manual gateway with credit cards, but only authorizing at check out. I understand what Authorize means (validates the credit card), but what's the difference between Charge and Capture?

Let me know if you need more clarification.

"Capture" means charge the amount that is "Authorized" already.

"Charge" means charge a credit card directly. There may be or may not be an authorized amount.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Just to further clarify. If you've configured payment for manual gateway, capture and charge are just ways of documenting that they payment has been captured or charged. There isn't anything more going on other than marking the payment as collected, correct?

In other words, with manual gateway, the payment is still processed manually and in AliCommerce, you're just documenting the action, correct?

Re: payment actions (Authorize, Charge, Capture)

I have configured for PP Pro and Charge Full Amount during checkout. I am using the hotfix 2.00.04.

I did a live transaction and it completed successfully, but the PayPal Account shows a Capture button by the transaction.

If I have Charge Full Amount shouldn't it just charge the amount and not require me to use the Capture function in PP?

Here is the text from the transaction, which shows a 0 balance due. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Frank, this wasn't really an info type of email. It was a - we need to know how this is supposed to work - and if it is not working correctly, is the short term solution to just use the PayPal Capture to get the funds? If so, do you think your looking into this might result in a near term solution?

I feel confident that others are using PP Website Payments Pro and have the same settings as we do. So has anyone else brought up this issue before?

Thanks again for your support. The more I learn the more confident I am in your product and can't wait until my next client where I can use this. It will be so much easier; and thus result in a quicker, more profitable implementation.
